Guitarfrenzy Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Grizzly tools makes some good stuff for the price. Check out their 12" bandsaw. That's about the only one you can get from them under 150 bucks, but I'd highly recommend buying at least a 14" bandsaw if I was you. Which will cost you roughly double, but it will let you do so much more later on. Here is a page full of bandsaws they sell. Quote
Meegs666 Posted August 16, 2004 Author Report Posted August 16, 2004 i do my bodies with a jigsaw and sand them down. i really only want the bandsaw for doing necks, because a jigsaw is so bad at doing nearly straight lines and the blade slips too much. Quote
Devon Headen Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 I'm in your boat right now. That 12" Grizzly is the one I've been planning on ordering. After I get some more money, I'll get the bigger one and dedicate the 12"er to finer stuff and a smaller blade Quote
Dr. Jabsco Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 for doing a neck all you really need is a 9''er. thoes run about 99 bucks last time i checked. Quote
MzI Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 i have a grizzely 16" love it so id say go with grizzely i resaw and everything with it MzI Quote
Dr. Jabsco Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 how do you do your resawing with a bandsaw? using one of thoes straight slides for the miter slot? Quote
MzI Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 nope, just raise the riser and run the board thru, yea there is special fences and everything and small blades that are just for resawing, but i have none of that just a regular 5/8" blade, ive resawn flamed maple, purple heart ( that is way harder then maple be careful you might ruin and saw with a small motor), bolivian rosewood, black walnut and sum other stuff, i just run the wood thru a thickness sander to level it out afterwards MzI Quote
Guitarfrenzy Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Yeah the Grizzly 16" got some great reviews, and can do about anything you'd need it to do as far as guitar building is concerned. That's probably the one I'll buy when I get a new bandsaw or maybe 18" if I'm lucky. Quote
MzI Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 i actually wish i had the 18" cuz i like v's and need the higher rise to do wide boards for the tops but ill live with what i have for now, the only thing that isnt good bout the grizzely is the electrical, my dad actually redid the plug to a 220v so its safer MzI Quote
