MurphC
Hi, Does anyone have any info on semi hollow guitars with a redwood body AND top? Is it feasable to build one completely out of redwood, and what kond of tone would it have? Thanks.

erikbojerik
Like spruce, redwood is light and strong, but I've heard it is not quite as bright as spruce. It does dent easily, which could be a problem for the back & sides. I've got an archtop hollowbody in the works with a redwood top (claro walnut back & sides); I'll let you know how it turns out (in a couple of years ). MurphC
The price isn't a problem, as I already bought a 2" thick piece of redwood that's as tall as I am. I will try it and if it sounds bad, it sounds bad. I also got a piece of mahogany for the neck, all the wood for this project has cost only $50! It will be a fun learning project if anything. VanKirk
I have no first-hand knowledge but have read discussions about the tone of redwood and the over-all concensus from those that have used it is that it's a great sounding wood. Here's one with a redwood top on a mahogany back: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/BigBadWolf/tele1.jpg
truerussian558
i remeber there was a link to a female luthiers site and she ahd made 1 or 2 acoustic (i think, but might have been electric) guitars out of redwood. and it had pictures and a review of the wood. www
I typed in Redwood semi-hollw guitars in google and came up with quite a few guitars. It got me interested in doing a redwood body with spruce top. Bass that is.
