lovekraft
Try a larger value tone cap - assuming you have the standard .022µF, try .047µF, or even .1µF.
weezerboy
on both tone pots or just the one?
lovekraft
Both, unless one sounds OK and the other lacks bass. Not for nothin', but you do realize that a Strat isn't exactlya bass monster to begin with, right? Its construction doesn't exactly lend itself to a great deal of bottom, and the trem tailpiece also accentuates the mids and highs.
weezerboy
yeah, but i wanted a mini quick cheap fix btw - tell me if i get too technical here - the .1uF cap is a black booger on legs right?
lovekraft
Should be - I only use green ones myself.
weezerboy
ok...finally before i go melt things - does it matter which way round it goes? thanks by the way
lovekraft
No, makes no difference - you could get a decent cap assortment for this stuff from Maplins for little or nothing not so long ago, but lately I understand that they're all cellphones and computers. If possible, use a film cap, although a ceramic disc cap will be OK in a pinch.
weezerboy
its like a little cylinder thingy i got it from maplins in a huge box of bits "PC Elect 1uF 100V"
lovekraft
No, that's an electrolytic (eeeuuwww!!!), and it's 10X too big - gimme a minute and I'll see if I can find you a UK suppllier. Be right back!!!
lovekraft
OK, straight from Maplin's website - films (preferred) on the left, and ceramics on the right - use the underlined values. I've no idea if you can get these in the shops, but at least you know what to look for. HTH
