sscovill Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 When building a Les Paul, can some tell me two things: 1-Does the nut "sit" at the top of the 1st fret or is it inlaid into the fret? 2-What is the length of the 1st fret? Thanks, Steve Quote
litchfield Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 The nut is totally separate from the fretboard. Quote
Guest AlexVDL Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 The nut acts as a zero fret... so it is placed where the first fret should be. Some guitars have a zero fret with a nut behind it. The edge of the nut is the place where the zero fret should be: Here you can see a nut behind the zero fret: The les paul fretboard I drew for you ends at the zero fret I hope you can figure out the rest yourself Quote
