oldcrowbar Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 Hi All I was wondering what stain colors you would use to get a "tiger eye" look on figured maple. Kinda like this look - http://prsguitars.com/showcase/private/ps237.html. I know there are probably several diffent stains or mixes that could be used, but was hoping to get an idea of what most people prefer. Quote
guitar_ed Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 Howdy, I think that the first step I would use is the sand back approach. If you do a search on "sand back" you should find some tutorials on it. But the orange/brown. HooBoy. Not a clue. Figure out what dye you want to use, either a RGB (Red Green Blue) or CMY (Cyan Magenta Yellow) dye, and get the appropriate color wheel. Then practice. Either water or alchohol base dyes will do the job. Take care and take photos. Guitar Ed Quote
Maiden69 Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 Check this page scroll down and go to the 1st pic of the body already stained and read the explnation of how he did it. The stain black-sand-stain the color you want is another option. Quote
Drak Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 You also need a 4A or 5A quilted top to pull it off. No matter how good you are at staining or enhancing grain, you can only enhance what's there to begin with. Quote
