Nouseforone
In trying to cut as many costs as i can on my custom do you actually need pick up rings?or can you do with out?(im putting EMGs in)
xebryusguitars
They're not required at all, look at LGM's new leviathan and the new GOTM winner. They dont have the rings and neither do you . Nothings gonna blow up, but it is recommended due to the spacing in between the pickups and the routed area. Devon Headen
Your routing will have to be extremely precise and clean for it to look decent.
thedoctor
I don't think EMGs look good with rings. Something about that basic black monobloc just says don't crowd me. I go to a hydraulic shop and get fat o-rings that barely stretch around the pickup and roll them on. Takes some time to get them to roll against the body but the finished product don't offend me. Specially for 20 cents.
crafty
Do you already have the pickups? If not, just buy the EMGs that are sized for a P-90 rout. They don't require rings or ugly routes for mounting ears.
