Futuro-custom Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I was thinking, if you used a disc sander and kept it flat around the back of the neck over the area where the neck plate is, could you take about 1cm off the body to give more access at the neck? I might try this soon. Can this be done, do you think? Sorry if I haven't explained it very well. Thanks Quote
gw_guitars Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Hi, I think it's a little dangerous. With a sander you don't know how much wood you will be taking off. Specially a disc sander can grind (correct word?) in. Furthermore it's hard to keep a disc sander nice flat. From what I understand you will be taking off 1 cm of wood. I think that is dangerous at that ppoint of the guitar because it will make the neck/body joint a little fragile. maybe it's better to use a router and just take out what you think will be necessary. Hope this will help. Gerard Quote
Brian Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 A palm sander gives you more control doing that, also stay away from osilating spindle sanders unless your used to working with them because they take a ton of wood off quickly. Quote
Futuro-custom Posted June 5, 2003 Author Report Posted June 5, 2003 so if i pre-measured the area I wanted the sand then did it by hand it would work?? i would probably take about 9mm off the neck joint. Would I need to buy shorter screws for the neck plate? Thanks for the input Quote
Brian Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 On a typical AANJ guitar the neck side screws are 1/4" shorter than the others. Quote
gw_guitars Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Just curious, What have you decided? Gerard Quote
