Curtis P Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Ok ladies and gents. Christmas hollidays are coming up, and i want to get my Jem (just the body so far) ready for finish by the end of january List of what I have to do 1)route neck pocket 2)route pickups 3)route control cavity, drill volume and tone pot holes 4)drill TOM post holes 5)sand up to 2500 all over 6)level sand after sealing now, with the template i got, it has the trem route with the lions claw too, can I use the trem placement as my TOM placement? or should i wait, finish my neck (just gotta attach fingerboard and shape back of neck) lay it out, and mesure the 25.5 scale length?? I planned on routing the control cavity and getting the holes drilled on the weekend after work Thanks!! Curtis Quote
LukeR Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 (edited) Hi Curtis, Sorry- I am a bit confused- are you going to use use a tuneomatic instead of a trem? Luke Edited December 16, 2004 by LukeR Quote
Drak Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 it has the trem route with the lions claw too, can I use the trem placement as my TOM placement? No. or should i wait, finish my neck lay it out, and mesure the 25.5 scale length?? Yes. This is the way I'd do it, but others may have differing opinions. Route neck pocket Remember to add in your angle for a TOM Then actually attach neck Measure down to your scale length and mark it Check neck for trueness to centerline If neck is off a little to one side or the other, either correct it now so it's trued with Centerline, or remember to adjust your pickup cavities accordingly left or right so they line up under the neck, not with the centerline. Make a mark at your scale length to use for placing the bridge Use a square to run a line perfectly perpendicular to your centerline at the scale length location off to the bass and treble sides about 3" Run 2 strings down neck to mark your bridge location. Use two strings or fishing line, whatever floats your boat, but use the bridge when you're doing this and when you find the correct location, let the strings go, hold the bridge exactly in place, it should be sitting directly over your scale length line Mark the treble side spot with a scratch awl put directly thru the treble side bridge hole right on the scale length line Measure 3/16" back from bass side scale line and make a mark Then measure the distance between your TOM holes center to center Double check both measurements so that they both hit the same exact place Drill TOM post holes And stopbar holes too if you're using one 2)route pickups 3)route control cavity, drill volume and tone pot holes 5)sand up to 2500 all over 6)level sand after sealing Quote
