ibreakemineedtobuildem
I'm building a Mahogany Explorer with this maple, purpleheart neck.Still not done yet. I decided to try the headstock ears with the purpleheart and maple continuing the stripes.I don't know what to do.Should I get rid of the outside stripes and just go with maple or do they look alright the way they are? It's gonna be a 1 pickup explorer(EMG 81)with a Brazillian rosewood, walnut, red mahogany stain pattern. That neck is a 23 fret neck.Reason?I only had 1 board that was damaged,so I cut off the last fret.Hey,it's 1 more than the standard 22 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/neck2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Ibr...ildem/neck1.jpg Edited December 17, 2004 by ibreakemineedtobuildem
HeavnerGuitarWorks
I think it rocks the way it is. Looks great.
MzI
great looking neck, im using purple heart and flamed maple for my bass, 1/8 strips of ph and 3/4 strips of maple i think, im going to continue the pattern to make the ears, question for you, will you leave the headstock with the wood showing or paint it MzI
ibreakemineedtobuildem
Good question.I might leave the wood or a mahogany veneer to match the body. I'd bet the flame with purpleheart will look great.
Mickguard
I like the two racing stripes that follow the line of the neck itself...it's the third one closer to the tip of the headstock that bothers me...cover that one?
westhemann
i would put a nice veneer on the top of the headstock....you will see the laminations from behind.... maybe a flame maple veneer, but dye it the color of the body
