Matthias
As much as I would like to build a guitar from scratch, I don't have any kind of shop at all.I was thinking about buying an unfinished tele body and getting it painted the same color as my dads car. Can I take the body to an auto paint shop and do this? Do I have to do anything special to the wood?By the way I am thinking about getting an alder tele body. Drak
Yup, you can do that, shouldn't be much of a problem except for haggling the price. Remember custom bike shops too, sometimes they're even more attuned to doing things like this than an auto body place since they do trick jobs a lot. Matthias
Do I need to use wood filler before its painted, and does it need clearcoat after?
Drak
It's probably better if you do give them a nice flat surface to shoot on, I would use CA glue since it doesn't shrink back and will work with pretty much any finish they shoot on top of it. Bad fumes tho for a few minutes.

Devon Headen
CA is short for cyanoacrylate. It's a superglue that some people here use as grain filler. StewMac's "hot stuff" is CA.
