SawDust_Junkie
Hey guys ! I am in the process of building a LP DC copy. I have CAD drawings that give me most of the dimensions I need, but one thing it doesn't provide is the depth of the pickup cavities. Can anyone tell me what the standard depth for humbucker pickups in a LP is ?

Maiden69
HBday, If you are not making a replica, don't worry too much for the pup cavity depth, I never do, the only thing that I check is that it will clear the adjustment screws, other than that, I eyeball it, but I do make both cavities the same depth. They got to look uniform to me, nobody else! ,
ToneMonkey
Thanks kaj ! And to think you were the one who sent me the CADs ! ← Yeah but it's got bolt on P90's on my drawing 40 isn't classed as old anymore, it just means that you haven't got long until the kids leave and you can have fun again <---- When I left my folks made me chop up my bed..... ..... but it might have had something to do with someone barfing on it at my leaving party
SawDust_Junkie
Thanks for the birthday wishes Maiden ! You know I have never owned a Gibson guitar or really played one that much. That is one resaon I wanted to build a copy. Do the humbuckers in a Gibson actually mount tothe PUP ring, which is then mounted to the body of the guitar, and the adjustment just moves the PUP up and down in the mounting ring ? In other words, the pickup adjustment screws just raise and lower the PUP up and down in relation to the ring ? The is no actual contact between the PUP and the cavity or the body of the guitar ? I would think that a depth of 3/4" of an inch would be sufficient to allow enough up and down travel in the cavity for the PUP ? Student, I do feel young at heart, like you said, but as I get older, the spirit is willing but the flesh doesn't always cooperate any more ! Maiden69
Here is a pic of the pup hole in the neck of my Epi LP Classic http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/Maiden69/DSC00996.jpg And the complete body http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/Maiden69/DSC01015.jpg as you can see that pups do mount to the rings, the depth is about 3/4" so you are right there, the screw is about 1" long, at least most of them, thats why you see the recess holes on the corners. of the bottom cavity. You shuld be good with 1" depth,
