Roli
Anyone knows the correct dimensions of the neck of a short scale 3/4 guitar? (Like Ric 325 for example). I got an old ES 335 shaped semi hollow body, it's a nameless thing, I think it's made in East Germany... I got an idea that I'll make a short scale axe out of it, to achieve similar sounds that those old Rickenbackers got.
Roli
So the short scale is 20.75", right? With fretcalc I've calculated that the 21st fret would be placed at 14.582" from the nut. Thus I could size the length of the neck. Am I right?
westhemann
keep in mind that if the body originally had a full size neck then the bridge will not be in the right place for a 3/4 neck
Roli
Yep, I'm gonna replace everything for this new scale. This guit was actually a short scale bass with a trapeze tailpiece, and the (totally useless) bridge wasn't even screwed onto the body... But this body's good and the pick-ups are okay too. westhemann
sounds good.how are you going to install the bridge?on a hollow body you would have to have blocking under the bridge for reinforcement.that is probably why it originally had the trapese bridge.do you have pics? Roli
Unfortunately I don't have any scanner available right now, but it is a semi-hollowbody, you can call it thinline, with a solid timber in the middle, so it could carry a tune-o-matic kinda bridge. Must add, that it isn't carved like an original ES 335, actually it's totally flat from each side.
