How can I tell elm from walnut?

Recommended Posts

Walnut bark is dark looking, and deeply furrowed. Elm is lighter colored, grey-green, furrowed, but more like overlapping plates. If you cut into the end, walnut heartwood will be green, then changing fairly quickly to brown.
