sashimimi
Hi, I am going to be putting a single coil and a humbucker into my project, and I just designed this schematic using guitarelectronics.com. It is supposed to have a 3 way toggle that selects either the single, the hum, or both (just like the standard Paul). But also I was thinking it might be nice to have the single coil tone but with hum canceling so I added the coil tap in there. First of all, does every thing check out, and also will it be humcanceling at all or would I have to change the phase on the tapped hum. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/sas...uitarwiring.jpg
lovekraft
That's the way I'd have done it - give 'er a go, and if it doesn't humbuck ( is that even a real verb?), simply rewire the coil split switch to move the ground instead of the hot lead. sashimimi
Thanks lovekraft, its all in the planning stages, but I want to get started so bad I've been figuring all this stuff out now. I am limited with the cash flow, being 16, I need money for car insurance and im not working enough hours to begin with. Not to mention I need to buy tools cause my dad is the exact opposite of a handiman. well sorry for the rant, I'm tired.
Sambo
Small point, the on-off-on switch would stop any signal from the humbucker in the middle position, is this what you wanted? or did you really mean to have an on-on switch to switch between humbucker and split coil? sashimimi
Hi sambo, I wanted a kill switch to silence the whole guitar, but now loking at it that wouldnt work. How could I wire an on/on for the coil tapping, I dont really understand switches? Also what would just a straight kill switch be?
lovekraft
Good catch, Sambo - I didn't even notice it was an ON-OFF-ON switch. If you wire an ON-ON switch exactly the same way, it wll work as planned. A kill switch should just short the hot side of the output jack to ground - a simple SPST ON-OFF will work . Saber
You could use the ON-OFF-ON switch for both coil splitting and as a kill switch if you wire it like THIS. Position 1 would Kill the signal, position 3 would split the coil, and the middle position would have no effect.
sashimimi
THanks you guys so much for the help. I have looked through the forum and the mian page but I have not found a site that explains wiring swithches in detail, i only got min from a site that showed how to wire but not why. i would like to be able to figure out how to wire my own switches, so if you have any sites that explain it or if you can that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the help.
