marksound
I was looking at guitars on the 'bay and found a Tokai acoustic with a familiar looking headstock inlay. Sure enough, I pulled up the Carvin Craig Chaquico model and it has the same inlay. What's up with that? Does Tokai make Carvin acoustics (non-Cobalt)? Does Carvin make Tokai acoustics? Is this a coincidence?
Scott Rosenberger
I think all the carvin acoustics are made in asia
frank falbo
Yeah, Carvin doesn't "make" any acoustics, so it'd be awfully hard for them to make the Tokais. I imagine they're coming from the same factory, but the inlay alone is meaningless, and I don't know of any financial relationship between the two names. marksound
I didn't really think Carvin made Tokais. I already knew they outsourced the Cobalts. But most of the non-Cobalt acoustics are "semiacoustic," so I assumed they were made in the same US factory as the electrics. Oh, well. Maybe I'll email them and demand to know what the hell is going on here.
Jester700
ONLY the Cobalts are outsourced. I suspect both brands source them from Cort or Samick - there's a persistent rumor about Cobalts & Cort. But the non-Cobats ARE made in the USA. The headstock thing? I dunno. Coincidence or copy, but not the same factory.
