Far as I can tell, KTM and USL are both easily applied, and I've seen plenty of guitars done successfully with KTM, with brush or spray application. If you want gloss and low-toxicity, KTM or USL are your two choices, IMO. Practice, and you'll get there. If you don't want high gloss, polymerising oil like Tru-Oil is the way to go.
