Speiro Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Hi all, I've seen a Strat style body for sale made from Brazillian Oak. What are the properties like of this wood. Is it any good? Thanks Tony Quote
Gorecki Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 HARD AS A ROCK! If this body is ready to use with all routing done in advance, it'll work and likely be very heavy and very bright sounding. If it's not ready to use and routing is required, be prepaired to go through some router bits because that stuff makes purple heart look like pine in density comparison. But I haven't actually seen it used on a body but have worked with it. Quote
Speiro Posted January 18, 2006 Author Report Posted January 18, 2006 Thanks for that. There are a few on EBay at the moment that are routed ready for 3 single coils, although I would probably want to alter that for a HB. Quote
Mattia Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 What the heck would 'Brazilian Oak' be, exactly? Got a species name for that? Quote
Speiro Posted January 18, 2006 Author Report Posted January 18, 2006 It's called cerejeira apparently! Quote
mikhailgtrski Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 This stuff? Brazilian Oak Sounds like it could be quite heavy and hard to work. Great for floors Quote
Gorecki Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Yeah, it's hard. I made a couple of (turned) sticks to be used for martial arts weapon and they were hell on blades. But you could hit a steel pole in a parking garage with them and dent it (not them)! Quote
