A Small Speaker In The Guitar.

Recommended Posts

K, it's a little project I think I'm gonna make.

I don't know what the body's shape gonna look like yet. Probably a flying V.

It really doesn't matter to my question.

My question is, I'm going to have 1 Humbucker at neck and between the neck and the pup, I'm going to put in a small speaker about 4" or so, the fitting won't be much of a problem. It's run by a 9V bat.

It's just that, would putting in the speaker there create any sort of feedback, bad tone/sound, anything at all? I don't think I've ever seen a guitar with a speaker under the strings..

Also, would this have any effect on the guitar's sustainability?

i was in a guitar shop yesterday, and saw a guitar with a build in speaker where the neck pup should be.

must have had a smokey amp (or similar) built in. flick the switch and away you go. sounded a bit tinny.

it was a casino brand, but i didn't get a model no.

cheers

I had a nomad for a while. Neat idea, but cheap execution. Well, it wasn't very expensive.

Yes, it DID feed back easily. Sometimes this was cool; sometimes not. It DID sound tinny; you have even less "cabinet volume" than even those mini fender & marshall pocket amps, so that makes sense.

If you put a speaker directly under the strings (much like an acoustic sound hole placement) there might be some funky side effects when it gets loud. The sound from the speaker would intern vibrate the strings. Perhaps this is why Fernandes offsets theirs.

Hmm. That's not a bad idea.. I could just install it inside the guitar but as a seperate unit and I'd have a jack going in from the guitar (get one of those 3" pedal cnxn jack) and I could plug in normally to amp if i wanted to.. and i could be playing another guitar through it and have this one play through amp. :D

My first view of the microamp was by JackBlack from the school of rock.. so I didn't have much of an impression :D

Thx for the idea

There are several DIY 1/2 practice/headphone amps out there that you oculd use to drive the speaker:

"Little Gem (and Little Gem Mark II)"

http://runoffgroove.com/littlegem.html

"ROG Ruby"

Theres also a schematic for a Smokey Amp clone somehwere on this page: http://www.geocities.com/tpe123/folkurban/...s.html#lofomofo

Well I was on a search for wierd and strange guitars because the one I am planning out for the future isn't quite standard... anyway I came across this in the search.

I found it on someone's blog, and I'm not sure where it came from, but it seems that the speaker is under the strings. Excepting the fact that it is plastic... I thought you would be interested in seeing it and it's interesting twists. Maybe you can find out what it is and get some more research for your project, who knows. Enough of my rambling, good luck!

(P.S. Try searching "strange guitar" on google images sometime. You come across some interesting things.. like the "Wangcaster" :D )

P.P.S. In my searches I have found another strange brand but one with a speaker in it.
