javacody
I just bought a new Hitachi router to replace my $25 ebay special. What a piece of crap that was. Got my feet wet with it, though. This new hitachi seemed comparable to the bosch and looked and felt hella lot better than the SKIL. Here's a link to the router I got: Hitachi router at lowes Anyone else use one of these guys? Edit: Here's a link to Hitachi's site: Hitachi US site, One thing I noticed is that this router is supposed to be fairly quite (as far as routers go). My ebay POS special was deafeningly loud. sumphead
Yup I have one, and it;s one of my favorites. I use a 1-1/4 Porter Cable for smaller stuff and used to use a 3HP PC monster for the tougher jobs. I now use the hitachi for that. With the 1/2" shank I can burn through 1" cast acrylic with no sweat. It seams to be very well built and has less chatter than the big PC. Worth every penny. javacody
sumphead, how is it noise wise? Are their claims of lower noise correct?
sumphead
I never really give much thought to noise. But it is about the same as the smaller PC but nothing is as loud and the 3hp. I would bet it would be quieter than a skil for sure. R-

However the collets are a POS, change them for Bosch ones (yes they fit with no modifications) and you'll have (IMO) the best 2hp router there is. javacody
You can buy bosch collets separately? I'll have to look around for them.
dash
i've owned an hitachi 3.25 h/p router for years. it is a fantastic tool, never had a problem with it (and its done a LOT of work in that time) as for noise, thats really the neighbour's problem, because you wear hearing protection. right??? cheers darren

javacody
Darren, obviously, you are single. LOL I need to invest in hearing protection and a better dust collection system before I get much further into this.
kiwigeo
as for noise, thats really the neighbour's problem, because you wear hearing protection. right??? cheers darren Darren, Not trying to be the noise cop in here but I think Javacody will find the noise will quickly become HIS problem once the neighbours complain and the council noise control officer comes knocking. Noise is one of the major cause of conflicts between neighbours and 9 times out of 10 the conflict is easily avoidable by a little communication and consideration. Being on good terms with your neighbour is also cheap insurance for your workshop....a neighbour youve p**ed off with nocturnal routing sessions is probably not going to do much when he sees house breakers making off with the offending tool. Just my ten cents worth. Cheers Martin
