TheCross Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 hi. I was about to place an order at allparts but their fret wire section is really disturbing to me... I want similar ones to the ones on my Gibson SG... which would be that? would you be so kind and check www.allparts.com and tell me? Quote
Mattia Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Get a caliper and measure the frets on your Gibson? It's not like all SGs ever have the same size fretwire... Quote
soapbarstrat Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Or poor man's way : use a short decent straight-edge bridged across two frets, then see what size of a short cut-off piece of guitar string will just fit between the SE and fret-board surface. Take readings like this on a few different areas of the neck and get an average. Might as well start with a piece of .042" guitar string and go more or less from there. This will help determine the height, but not the width. Why do you want allparts wire instead of Stew-Mac wire ? Quote
TheCross Posted May 15, 2006 Author Report Posted May 15, 2006 right. I'll go n check.... I thought there might be some more accurate information about gibson fretwire... I go allparts cos I already order some stuff from there and the fretbwire would be the only thing I'll get from StewMac Quote
soapbarstrat Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Something right at, or about .047" tall by .095" wide is a real good choice if you're not sure what you want, and is probably the size a current made Gibson would have. Quote
