On my latest guitar I'm using the stewmac long shaft pots (because it's a carved top and regular pots are not long enough to stick through) but I'm having trouble finding a rotary that would have a long enough shaft (the portion with the threads) so I could mount it the in the guitar.

Basicly my setup would be something like PRS. Any idea how they do it?

I know how to wire up a switch, I just can't seem to find one that would work on a carved top.

I'll have to do some measuring, but I may be able to drill a recess so a shorter pot will work.

On my Warmoth, they routed the cavity partially into the maple cap. The bottom of the cavity isn't flat - it parallels the top carve.

If drilling isn't an option, you might check mouser.com for a different rotary switch.

For the record: I've never, ever used a long-shaft pot, and I practically only build carved top guitars. The red PRS-ish one with the recessed knobs uses regular pots.
