strangegrey
Hey folks, I'm planning a guitar that will have a Floyd Rose (OFR) tremolo...which has 10 deg radius at both the nut and bridge. Stew mac sells fretboards at 12 degrees. Is this a drastic enough difference to be an issue? How can I get around this? Is it just a case of using a radiused sanding block at 10 degrees and hitting the 12 degree board with the 10 degree block until the curve is correct? Thanks for any advice regarding this... -Frank
mammoth guitars
The radius is in inches not degrees and the Stewmac boards should have enough thickness for you to change the radius. However you may want to use their 25" scale unradiused or the 25.5 compound radius fretboard as an alternative.
strangegrey
Do'ah!!! That's what I meant...it's been a long day!!! The unradiused is certainly an option that I didn't consider. Can one 'radius' a fingerboard with a radiused sanding block, or is that a method not advised?
Daniel Sorbera
Can one 'radius' a fingerboard with a radiused sanding block, or is that a method not advised? Thats the way I use. It just takes a while and you have to be sure to keep the keep the board strait while doing it. The longer the sanding block the better. Jester700
That's not that big of a mismatch. I'd actually try it to see if it's a problem. If so, which do you prefer? You can get a 12" nut and shims for the bridge saddles if you prefer that.

As for the mismatch, I'm starting to agree, that's not a big deal....plus, I'm starting to like the idea of trying the compound radius boards at stewmac...and then ordering some new saddles from FR to flatten the radius at the bridge. -F

You are right - I remembered incorrectly; only the speedloader is available with a 12" radius. Sorry. For what it's worth, I LOVE my compound radius necks - the 10-16" one by Warmoth is awesome IMO. Racer X
Get shims for the saddles. They are out there. Having the same issue, currently.
