TimS
Alright, I've finally made some progress on my RG copy, and I've the pics to prove it! Let me know what you guys think. First off, I laminated the neck and body core from Honduran mahogany and rock maple. I know, I should have used more clamps. The core piece, planed and sanded. Baby approved. http://static.flickr.com/83/270859865_bd1daa40fb.jpg The body wings, also Honduran mahogany. They still need to be cleaned up, as I cut them with a jigsaw. http://static.flickr.com/79/270859829_b14fae1de5.jpg Body wings against the core piece, just to see how it's coming along. The scrap piece next to it was rubbed with teak oil to give an idea of how the finish will look. http://static.flickr.com/89/270859851_0038b3f58e.jpg I know the JEM monkey grip is drawn on, but I won't be cutting it out. I like the look of the guitar without it. I'm planning on black chrome hardware with EMG pickups, and I'm thinking about natural ebony binding on the body top for a nice accent to tie in with the ebony fretboard. Primal
Thanks. And I forgot to mention, looks great so far! Thats a really wide neckthrough section. Is there any particular reason, or did you just like the way it looked?
TimS
Mainly, I needed to generate some width; the body wings were a little too narrow. I also like the look of the 5 piece core. I just wish I weren't generating so much scrap.
Primal
Yea, I figured thats what happened. Don't worry, I had 4 boards of walnut that I used up when building my bass. Luckily they were free. The good thing is I've got plenty of small pieces suitable for making boxes and such.
