MarkII Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Hello. I am trying to install a seymour duncan sh1 59 humbucker into my stratocaster, and have run into a problem. On every wiring diagram i posess, there are 4 wires coming out of the pickup. But mine only has one wire, with cloth and then metal sheilding. Two of the wires are connected to each other, so i suppose they arent really necessary to be on the outside. But i am still in need of an earth wire for the pickup and i was wondering if you could tell me what to do? Thank you. Quote
hooglebug Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 (edited) what do you mean when you say two of the wires are connected to each other? where are these wires - at the pickup or coming out of the cloth and metal shielded bit? if it is a single conducter pickup, then the inner black wire is the hot output, and the braided shield is earth. MarkII Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 its this diagram here that im using. my pickup has just one wire so this confuses me utterly http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schem...s_1v_2t_5w.html Quote
hooglebug Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 (edited) if your pickup has only one wire then the shielding must be the earth. is it cloth, or is it metal? does it look like the bottom of these four (go to bottom picture) Edited January 11, 2007 by hooglebug Quote
MarkII Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 yes, thats exactly what its like. im to connect an earth to the sheilding then? Quote
hooglebug Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 yes. just solder the braided shielding wire to the back of the pot in place of the green and grey wire in the diagram, and that should be it Quote
