Xanthus Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Just a quick question before I hit the sack: What's the best way to smooth out the transition between the paint on the back of a neck to the fretboard? Basically, how to avoid that lip that's inevitably going to occur. I know binding can make this easier, hell I've even seen the sides of fretboards cleared over, leaving the front untouched. Trying to work out possible kinks in my first paintjob before they become actual wrenches in the system. Thanks in advance, all! Quote
Setch Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 The sides of fretboards are nearly always cleared over. Just mask the front when spraying, and once your finsih is cured, peel the tap, and lightly go over the corner of the fretboard with a semi hadrsanding block to polish the fretends and smooth the finish edge. Xanthus Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 Oh, okay, cool. Thanks Setch! I honestly thought that it was a mistake, the guitar I picked up with clearcoat on the fretboard Go me! Aside from my own guitars, the only ones I play on are either bolt-ons with a satin finish or guitars with bound fretboard, apparently. Quote
