ibnaz5150 Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) Thinking of making a down draft table for hand sanding. Thinking of using pegboard for the top with some rubber shelf matting over that for grip. Build the frame out of 2x4 or 2x6's. drill a dust port hole for shop vac and wala. Anyone ever tried this before.... Edited January 29, 2007 by ibnaz5150 Quote
Doeringer Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) I like the idea and it sounds like it would work. I'm not sure if the shop vac would have enough power though spread out over that much area(?). Are you going to give it a try? Edited January 29, 2007 by Doeringer Quote
ibnaz5150 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Report Posted January 29, 2007 Ya some physics goin on there for sure. I may have to ream more holes...may have to enlarge them...size is a factor. I'm going to give it whirl. I have all the ingredients...which is scrap, extra etc. Nothin ventured nothin gained. Quote
Mattia Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Google Bill Pentz Cyclone, or similar. His (excellent) page on dust collection also has some info on a homebuilt downdraft table. Quote
spazzyone Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) we have some downdraft tables at the shop they just collect dust.......as in we dont even bother with them but if you do build one get a roll of drawer liner for a tool box like this http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=prod...&lpage=none to pad your top. your work wont move on it and the holes will let the dust thru its what i used to use on my bench for sanding now i use wet suit material as it lasts longer but it does not have any holes in it Edited January 29, 2007 by spazzyone Quote
