biliousfrog
looks nice, the neck looks very flat on the back though. I guess that you've just rough carved it but I personally would prefer to carve the approximate shape & then gradually thin it out rather than do it the other way round....because it's easier to tell whether a neck is too chunky when it is shaped like a neck & take some wood away. Personally I would have used a veneer or something to seperate the woods in the body as they kinda merge together. Props for making something original, it's a little too busy for me but it's coming along nicely. I think that the Stew-Mac knobs look fugly on that body so I'd go for some custom turned ones. Maybe go for some maple ones with a contrasting dome top of walnut? just my 2cents...or rather 2pence

carousel182
should i put the frets on before or after i finish the neck
travismoore
I think you fret them before you finish it but it may depend on types of finish ect so best get someone elses opinion aswell. Jon
Fret before. Once you have the finish on there, your chances of scratching it up will be pretty high when you're hammering/pressing the frets in.
carousel182
thanks thats what i wanted to know. the reason i was thinking of maybe finishing first is cause the finish might not reach everywhere but now that i think about it it will

carousel182
i got my finish off of target coating but is a sealer needed as well as a filler or is it one or the other and if you need a sealer what type of sealer is compatible with the 9000 polyurethane and the clear grain filler that can be purchased at a local store.
