My Fist And Second Projects

Recommended Posts

well I finally signed up for the forum, since I've been reading it I figured I may aswell.

I'm on my second build now ( not really a build more of a rebuild)

the first was an ebay plywood hollow body with a set neck I picked up awhile ago.

It came with junk pup's, nut, bridge, pots, wiring and badley setup frets.

so it went from this

to this

second was a Strat style sort of jackson style body found in the garbage.

it was made for rear access and solid mounted pup's no pickguard.

i was looking for something fun to do, so........

this was my design idea

mustang / strat / 51 p bass / swinger

in more of a tv yellow than beige

here's some progress pics of the second one. i like to call it the 51'er

first off i picked up a starcaster neck (i didn't wanna spend a huge amount for a neck on a plywood body)and cleaned leveled the frets.

second cutting down the horns and shaping

next was filling the trem pocket and rear cavity.

now to hand cutting and beveling the 3 ply pickguard and test painting, to make sure i liked the colour

(mmmm i like pickles)

you can see some of the spot filler showing through around the bridge area, but once painted it's gone completely

and this is where i'm at now.

and this is where i'm at now.

not going to clear coat since i'm going for an early type of finish.

i think you should do something about that headstock.

thats a cool looking guitar but i see the headstock and start to think its just a cheapo guitar.

mayb you could just carve it down, but stick to the retro look.

Curious, what does an expensive headstock look like?
