Logical Frank
Sounds like it's a coil splitter to me if those pickups are humbuckers. Does it get a little quieter when you turn it on (when it hums)?
BNichols
are the pickup humbuckers? the switch could be a coil split that turns it into a single coil
racedude21
yeah it does get quieter when you turn it on, so what does a coil splitter do, it splits the humbucker into to single coils?
Samba Pa Ti
yeah, that sounds like a coil split switch, what it does is bypass a coil of the humbucker so its only a singlecoil (should be a way to make 2 singles if you have all the cables comming out of the pickup like a lace dually)
BNichols
yes, a coil splitter just turns on one of the two single coil pickups inside the humbucker. ::edit:: don't mind me. i cant seem to respond fast enough. keep getting beat lol Edited May 17, 2007 by BNichols
racedude21
yes, a coil splitter just turns on one of the two single coil pickups inside the humbucker. but im confused as to whether the switch being on is humming or quiet. it hums when the switch is on
Samba Pa Ti
doesnt matter if its on or off it will work the same way, when its on it will be splitting the signal i guess http://www.guitar-mod.com/wiring/coil_tap.gif Edited May 17, 2007 by Samba Pa Ti
BNichols
yeah i wasn't sure if on meant normal humbucker operation or coil split
ibanezlover
If you like the sound with it on but don't want the hum, you can make a series-parallel switch. You can find how to do this on any guitar electronics site. This will make it alot quieter, though.
