Planing Ebony

This is a little like a recent post but my question is how well will ebony go through a planer? Will it chatter because it's a hard wood? I didnt have great results running flamed maple through mine, got a little tear out and ended up taking the top to a shop with a drum sander. This is in regard to a fingerboard that I'd like to thin out a little before radius sanding. Thanks.

It apparently splits easily so sanding would be the best option.

A router thicknessing jig will thin it out plenty fast.

If it already has slots, I'd make a return trip to the drum sander. Running a slotted board through a thickness planer....even routing to thickness....is asking for chip-out. Ebony is very brittle.
