Memphetic Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Anyone have any tricks or tips on getting a bookmatched top perfectly square so that you can't see a gap down the middle? I have a two-piece birdseye maple top that has a slight gap in it and want to get it perfect before gluing Quote
Jon Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 The trick is jointing it before you resaw, so when you do resaw the board you've got a perfect joint for gluing them together. If you purchased the wood this way, just tape it together to where it's a block again. Tape some 100-150 grit sandpaper to a true surface, then set up a guide rail or something that has a 90 degree angle to keep your top true when you re-joint it. Sand away until you've fixed your small gap, then remove the tape and you've fixed your issue. Quote
Memphetic Posted August 28, 2007 Author Report Posted August 28, 2007 Bought it this way... good idea though, just have to find something that has a 90 degree angle and will support such doings :-P Quote
Jon Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I used my table saw table with the same method to get one of my jigs precise. Quote
low end fuzz Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 try setting your jointer to the min, height on b.e. maple it tears so easily , you almost want to kiss the blades to it; sanding seems like a good idea ,but is often done slopply Quote
fryovanni Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 A search will probably give you a lot of other topics that cover this, but here is a link to another topic-link Peace,Rich Quote
