Astro2k Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Hi I got a locking nut for my Guitar and it sits to low strings they touch first fret. are there shims or something to raise it up or should i leave the regular nut in and put the locking nut behind it? I tried it that way it wasn't to low but don't look right never seen another guitar like that. Thanks Quote
mammoth guitars Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 A retail packaged Floyd Rose style nut should have included some shims to set the height. Kahler locking nuts keep the standard nut in place. Quote
soapbarstrat Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) So much more easy for the average Joe to raise locking nut height, rather than have to lower it (if it ain't got no shims under it). You loosen your mount screws, take off clamps, put clamp screws back in and use them to jack the lock-nut up, dialing in correct height. Then feeler the gaps on the edges underneath to find shim thickness needed. Edited September 12, 2007 by soapbarstrat Quote
Racer X Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) I always use variable grits of sandpaper. The finer grits are thinner, and really help me get where I need to be. Edited September 12, 2007 by Racer X Quote
