guitart
Just wanted to share my latest build. I had some wood scraps from past guitar builds and decided to use them. The neck is mahogany and maple with cocobolo venere and the fingerboard is cocobolo.

GregP
Awesome! That's exactly what I was hoping to do for a nice fun project, but I'm not that confident with the box I managed to get. Is the box sturdy enough for the string tension? I was considering doing mine as basically a "neck through".
mattharris75
Awesome! Very very cool. I love it.
guitart
Thanks everybody! GregP- All the sides on the box are 3/16" inch. I constructed the box like an acoustic guitar. It has a neck and tail block with linings to support the top and back. I also added an X brace to the top for strength. After the box was all glued up it had a pretty nice ring to it (for a cigar box). I went to the local guitar shop and played a few mandolins just to compare sound and the cigar box is surprisingly nice. The best part is the price. I spent about $60.00 for the parts. GregP
$60! Not bad! A couple more questions if you don't mind humouring me: - did you use guitar frets or mando frets? - did you use any sort of neck support/reinforcement (ie truss rod)? - is there any way to see the inside work? ie. did you take any progress pics? It'd be cool to see a braced cigar box.
guitart
GregP, I used guitar frets- large size from a well know supplier, it's what I had on hand and they work well. There is a truss rod, same style as gibson uses on their LP's. Here are some more pics, sorry but no progress pics, next time I do this i'll remember.
