vicarious484 Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 I have a guitar that I've made myself, lacquer finished and ready to polish. But I notice after wet sanding (from 400-2000) I see little specks of sand from the sandpaper being embedded in the finish. How do I avoid this or remove them? Thanks! Glen Quote
Ripthorn Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 You can wipe it down with naphtha or mineral spirits I think to get that off. Of course, test on scrap. Quote
kpcrash Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 The easy avoidance answer is to lube it better next time - use a drop of soap and not so much pressure as to not rip the sandpaper apart. It's also a good idea to soak the wet/dry papers overnight to make sure there's nothing loose on there to start with. Cleaning them out will be a pain in the a**, but if it's a good lacquer, you may be able to gently lift them out with a warm needle and smooth any pits slightly with 1000+ wet sand. Then, buff the hell out of it. Quote
Southpa Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 That shouldn't be happening at all unless you are using the wrong kind of paper, ie. garnet for dry sanding. Quote
