I have a guitar that I've made myself, lacquer finished and ready to polish. But I notice after wet sanding (from 400-2000) I see little specks of sand from the sandpaper being embedded in the finish. How do I avoid this or remove them?

Thanks!

You can wipe it down with naphtha or mineral spirits I think to get that off. Of course, test on scrap.

The easy avoidance answer is to lube it better next time - use a drop of soap and not so much pressure as to not rip the sandpaper apart. It's also a good idea to soak the wet/dry papers overnight to make sure there's nothing loose on there to start with. Cleaning them out will be a pain in the a**, but if it's a good lacquer, you may be able to gently lift them out with a warm needle and smooth any pits slightly with 1000+ wet sand. Then, buff the hell out of it.
