Serius13 Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Im planning to use an active EMG Afterburner with my passive Seymour Duncan's. The Wiring Diagram says that this turns the pickup into a low impedance pickup up. Does that mean that I should use Low impedance Pots? Quote
kpcrash Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Yes, and pick up a PA-2 from EMG Quote
Serius13 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 isnt the PA2 a switch version of the afterburner? Just no adjustments Quote
Serius13 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 should I use standard EMG Pots? Quote
Serius13 Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 wait doesnt the pa2 only apply when your mixing emg pickups with passives Quote
Tim37 Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 the pa2 is a fixed preamp it is adjustable but it uses a set screw that is mounted on the back of the unit. it can be used with a active or passive pickups but im not sure if it can be used to mix the two Quote
kpcrash Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 wait doesnt the pa2 only apply when your mixing emg pickups with passives Sorry - misread. The PA-2 is only required if you're mixing. Shouldn't need to change anything - except the amount of time I spend waking up before getting on here sometimes. Quote
Serius13 Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 so your totally sure I should use the low impedance Pots right? How do you think it will effect my tone? Quote
ansil Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 it depends on where you put the afterburner. if you put it after the volume pot. then no use normal pots. if you put it straight after the pickup before switches and pots then yes put in low imp pots. the question to ask is what kind of pickup system are you running and where do you want it in the schematic. its only low imp after the output stage of the preamp not before. so if you only got one then afterwards is the case. and use normal pots ed Quote
