westhemann
That looks amazingly like a piece of alder I have. You have the wood...look and see if it has large pores like mahogany in the grain or if it is more tight, like maple.I have a few elm trees and I cut pieces off sometimes...let me go out and look at a piece. westhemann
Tough to tell on uncut wood, but it seems tight grained...looks and feels alot like alder. My gut feeling is that it isn't going to happen to accentuate the grain like you can do ash.But I think you could get very close to the look of that PRS just with toner coats. westhemann
Let me ask a question..are you talking about the red to black fade or the black accentuated grain lines underneath? Because the red to black is just done with coats of translucent color over the top of the wood...so open or closed grain makes no difference...but if you want the black grain lines underneath you need open grain I think
