necroreaper
Hi guys, I'm building an ash guitar and was wondering how I might acheive a finish like this one? I'm assuming there's no grain filler, and maybe just black dye...maybe that's just wishful thinking! Thanks in advance
WezV
Its just sprayed. You need to blow some compressed air to really clear out the grain first here is a similar one i did - not quite as grainy but thats mostly down to the piece of wood its just enough lacquer to get a solid colour
necroreaper
Cheers Wez, I thought it might be more complicated... result! Sorry, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to finishing, could I achieve this with spray cans or something I can wipe on? I don't have a compressor or spray gun so I need it to be as basic as possible.
guitar2005
I would use a french polish type of finish to achive that. As for color, you could use the old steel wool in vinegar trick.

necroreaper
Cheers MexicanBreed, I managed to find the posts you were referring to. I've also read a bit about india ink so I'll do some more research on that too. Thanks for the input guys
3DogNate
Hi guys, I'm building an ash guitar and was wondering how I might acheive a finish like this one? I'm assuming there's no grain filler, and maybe just black dye...maybe that's just wishful thinking! Thanks in advance Email Sheldon and ask.. personally I'd seal it and shoot a regluar old sunburst and shoot a satin nitro or satin 2k finish and be done with it.
