Quick wiring question

I am wiring a bass using an EMG PJ set, and a Vol-Bal-Tone pot config. I was also planning to add 2 On/Off switches for the pickups, but a friend pointed out that these would be redundant because the balance pot turned all the way either way would do the same thing as the switches.

I still want to add the switches, simply because they would look cool. If I do this, will the added wire/contacts etc. create a serious risk of added noise from dirty contacts, etc.?

If you're just adding the switches for a cool look, why not avoid the question altogether and not hook them up?
