bluesdude Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 If I only use one pot for volume, and leave out the tone, will the tone automatically go to the highest setting? I never use the tone control, I set it on high and never touch it. Can I remove it and use it as a volume control on a different guitar? Quote
Nalo1022 Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 well yes you could do that but it would be very bright sounding even moreso then usual but if you put a capcitor in there that will take care of thge brightness Quote

Why you would want to use it as a volume pot on another guitar is beyond me... but the answer is yes, you could. Quote
Saber Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 If I only use one pot for volume, and leave out the tone, will the tone automatically go to the highest setting? Yes, it will sound like when the tone control is turned up to the brightest setting, probably even slightly brighter. Can I remove it and use it as a volume control on a different guitar? Yes you can but there are 2 things to consider: 1. The volume pot for humbuckers is usually 500K. For single coil pickups, it's usually 250K. Using a higher value makes the sound a bit brighter. 2. Volume pots are usually log taper while tone knobs are linear taper. You can use linear for volume but the volume will change at a different rate as you turn the knob. Not the end of the world. The log (or audio) taper pot is usually recognized by the letter A after the resistance value whereas the linear pot will have the letter B. Quote
