Mahelcaya Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 I gatherd some wood from the local supply store . It's a very hard wood with beautifull grain ,and a funky odor when sanding and planning. Dunno what wood it is SEE PIC HERE(Pic in the middle) I am making a laminated neck with it. Anyone know what wood this is? Quote
john Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 it looks like pine to me, but i may be wrong. Quote
Lex Luthier Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Yeah, the wider pieces of the laminate look like a soft wood, like Pine, which I DEFINATELY wouldn't use for a neck. The smaller laminations, not sure, we'd need to see more of that wood. Maybe Ipe? Quote
Mahelcaya Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 The thin dark , is a mohogany sipo veneer I have , but the larger ones, I don't thinkit's pine wood, because it's not soft at all , I tried bending the single piece , and will not move in , feels like rock maple........ Dunno anyway I'll give it a try, and when I 'll go to cut it at the woodstore, I'll ask the guys, and let you know Quote
KeithHowell Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Could it be Ash? I have just built a P-bass body from White Ash and a number of people have mistaken it for pine until they pick it up and feel the weight difference. Keith Quote
Mahelcaya Posted March 4, 2004 Author Report Posted March 4, 2004 BANGKIRAI ! That is what they told me this morning at the wood shop. It is used mostly for outdoor, like fences Quote
