Mahelcaya Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Ok I got my hands on some nice lumber of zebrawood. I am planning a 7 string on a zebra 3 piece body, and was thinking to use it for the neck, to make it necktrough. Is Z wood ok for necks? Quote
Brian Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 As far as I know it is but I would still run a strip of hardwood down the center or add rods to it under the fretboard for added strength. Quote
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 By hardwood he means Bubinga, purpleheart, ebony, wenge. Strong, dense, stable woods. Quote
Hotrock Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I've used it as the centre strip on a 6 string neck (maple on the outside) and it doesn't seem to have twisted (yet). Got to admit; it worried me a bit as the grain is rather wavy I thought it might twist a little. I had a bit of trouble with the end grain when I was trying to sand it square. It went shiney and rock hard but a bit of perspiration never did anyone any harm. Some people have had no trouble with the end grain but there you go maybe it's just me. BTW, I've not strung mine yet so there's plety of time for that twist to occur Quote
tdog Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I'm not sure that I wood use Zebrawood in a neck....It has a tendency to develop hairline fractures....Under string tension, it could lead to problems. Quote
