Bad Moon Guitars
Is Agathis a type of wood? ESP offers guitars in ash, "agathis" , etc. Just wondering what it is. Keith
Slaughthammer
yes, it's a kind of wood. my cort strat-copy is made from it too. it doesn't sound that bad, but there are much better woods to build an electric guitar from. i've read many different things, the one said, agathis is a terrible crapwood and some other had a very good oppinion on it, and someone wrote, that there are two different types of agathis.... if anyone of you can say something precise about it, please do. GuitarMaestro
As far as I know Agathis is the Asian version of spruce. It's kinda similar tree but not really spruce. I have B.C.Rich Bich made of Agathis and I have to admit it sounds ok. As Slaugther wrote there certainly are better woods though.... IWishICouldShred
My explorer is made of it and it has a pretty warm tone but not as good as mahogony. But yeah it is a type of wood.
