smokeyjocustoms
I am building a website for SmokeyJo Customs. Please know that site is not done but the front page is up. Take a look at it and let me know what you think so far. Good, Bad or indifferent. All opinions are appreciated. My New Site Quote Link to comment
jbkim
The page is real pretty but is there a way to disable the Flash? It got kinda annoying to wait for it to do it's thing before being able to click on another menu link . Quote Link to comment
soapbarstrat
If you do fret-work , then it sucks. Just kidding. It looks a lot better than mine. Mine looks like it was done while I was sitting in an outhouse Quote Link to comment
smokeyjocustoms
I will probably be adding a flash intro. Then the intro will have a flash free link or a Flash link . Then the surfer can decide on which page they see. Both will be identical but minus the loading flash. I always forget the DIAL UP that alot of people are still on. My cable loads it instantly. darren wilson
Overall, it looks pretty good! (Though it's hard to judge entirely from one mocked up screen. A splashy home page is easy... what are the catalog pages and order forms going to look like? That's where the user is going to spend the majority of their time.) You've got a fair amount of space dedicated to a big product shot on the main page, it works well at smaller screen sizes, and it's visually pretty vibrant. However, there are some basic usability principles you should consider: Don't do a Flash intro. A Flash intro is pointless. It puts another click between your potential customers and your products or services. If there's a "skip intro" button on it, it's obviously not important enough to have it there in the first place. Having music start immediately with no option to turn it off is a faux pas. At least it fades out after repeating a few times. Using gratuitous Flash for a site's main navigation has always struck me as a bad idea. Especially when you're using a lot of animation in the navigation. It's navigation through information, not a video game. When you have to sit there and wait for the menu to "drop down" from the top of the screen and all the text to fly in before you can navigate anywhere, it's poor user experience. Just my initial thoughts. Quote Link to comment
