Simo
After drooling over some off the awesome work on this site I've decided to get some equipment and start building I'm buying a router, sander, etc this week and have been trying to clear some space in my very cramped shed so I can get to work. Can anyone suggest some suppliers of body blanks in the UK? and what kind of prices can I expect to pay? I'm only want something cheap to get started on maybe Ash or Alder? spirit
the only place i know of (but i haven't used them) is www.luthierssuplies.co.uk dunno about prices, although with a body black costing $100 at stewmac, you may be just as well getting one from them and having it shipped here
Guitar_dude23
You might wanna check me out. Cheapest prices and shipping to the UK is only 18 GBP. www.henryhomestead.ca/Guitar.html
Simo
Well you're prices seem very cheap but I'm not sure about buying from overseas as I've heard that you have to pay import duties.
Guitar_dude23
Well you're prices seem very cheap but I'm not sure about buying from overseas as I've heard that you have to pay import duties. Duties wouldnt be much because it is a low cost item. All items under $1500 or something have a really low duty cost, or no cost at all. Simo
Thanks, I've ordered a catalogue from Luthiers Supplies
Steve Luke
Also try these lot. Their web site doesn't look to have much in the way of guitar materials, but if you order their catalogue (free) they have a range of boddy blanks at reasonable prices (e.g. mahogany and alder etc starting at about £30) Good luck http://www.craft-supplies.co.uk/
Simo
Doh! I meant to say I've ordered a catalougue from www.craft-supplies.co.uk not Luthiers Supplies. £30 sounds pretty good to me
Steve Luke
I think they do 1-piece and 2-piece blanks, and a nice range of caps (in maple and other) for reasonable prices, too. Good luck!
Bigtommyb
I just got their catalogue this weekend (craft-supplies) and the prices are awsome... and have a good range of wood. it also comes with a sheet telling you about how good the wood is to work with and what tonal qualities they have. e.g. Padauk Another great wood often overlooked, it can produce great sounding guitars. Care when bending is needed, but otherwise a lovely material to work with I found these guys great. Big Tom
Simo
it also comes with a sheet telling you about how good the wood is to work with and what tonal qualities they have thanks for the info, that sounds really good as my woodworking knowledge is shocking I think I'll need loads of pratice before letting rip on a nice piece of wood
