soapbarstrat Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 The European made stainless wire is supposedly as hard as it gets, as far as what's available. Some Asian wire has said to be softer (Doesn't mean all Asian wire is softer- I'm just passing along what I've heard from people who've worked with all kinds of SS wire). But, I have heard the European stuff can be milled with the typical files/sandpaper with no problem. I've heard others say the European stuff is so hard that it will ruin typical files. You'll just have to experiment to find out what's really up with the stuff. I've also heard that a famous guitar player had SS frets put on his guitar and wore some dents in them right away. He was even using the wire that's supposed to be the harder type. Rob Quote
