racing stripe

Hi,

I have an epiphone Lp standard and i want to add a gold racing stripe in the middle of my guitar.

just like james hetfield one's (but instead of to the side ,to the middle )

what would be the best way to do it?

My first thought would be automotive stripe tape. Or have a sign shop cut vinyl. It will stick well and last a long time but still be removable/changable.

what i think is the way you do it, requires you to strip the laquer/ clearcoat, whatever, so its only th paint thats visble, then you maske off the whole top, with a few layers of masking tape, then draw the lines (with a ruler!), and then using an exacto-knife or craft knifecut out the piece of masking tape that you drew the boundries of. then peel it off, and paint that part with a few coats of whatever color you want and then take of the masking tape, and respray the laquer.

btw this is not a 1-4 day project, with drying time for all, your guitar could be unusuable for upward of 3 weeks. also im not an expert in this i just remember reading up on this a while back.

i think you should try the logo tutorial like on the neck but try it on the body it should work.

but it will stand out and be annoying, either way you will have to refinish at least, the top coat of laquer.
