Ki swordsman
it'll be tight i assume your b is around .013? and not a 7th string? remember a heavy e is .011 (i think) i'd tune it to a D or something and just play differently for a little bit if it's a floating trem your setup will go out if not i wouldn't worry but i wouldn't tune all the way to E if it feels like it's getting really tight... Gorecki
Another thing you could do is if the set of strings already on the guitar have been used for a bit, they may have a bit of crud on them (corrosion from body oils, maybe even rust). Take the existing B string and wipe it down really well with lighter fluid and use it as the E string. This will thin the string out ever so slightly. Then put the new B where it belongs. Black Mariah
is okay to use a B string in its place and tune it to e? Yeah. obvously it will feel wierd, but will it do any damage to ym neck? No. At worst you have to do a minute truss rod or tremolo adjustment. Make sure that the nut can handle whatever gauge string you're using. Some aren't cut for anything over 11's. Devon Headen
and don't do any crazy bends or there's a good chance it'll break, too. I've done this with a D for a G several times. Always seem to break the G
