bob7
Does anyone know where i can find a 6/4 x 4" x 36" or similarly sized piece of wenge for a neckthru guitar? (to serve as the neck)
Scott Rosenberger
Be carefull buying Wenge without actually seeing it first. Wenge is prone to getting small cracks in it when not properly dried or dried too fast and even then the cracks are hard to see but will surely show up at the worst possible time
denny
Craft-supplies.co.uk have some georgous lumps of wenge, i'd never seen it before but was so taken by it i got some on the spot. The fact it looked like a giant bar of chocolate had absolutley nothing to do with it! Scott is right about it differing by each piece, make sure you at least ask for the striaghtest grain they have from whoever you buy it from. MKGBass
check www.galleryhardwoods.com he doesn't have any pictures, but he does a great job getting it smoothed/planed/jointed and set up the way you want it. I got some of the nicest wenge i'd ever seen from him (it wasn't even enough for a neck-thru blank, and it weighed 15 lbs!) Also when he's doing a neck for you, he'll make sure its quartersawn usually, which is nice (but not necessarily required with wenge)
