ShreddyKrueger Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 I have a Squier Strat, and i have been wanting a T.O.M. bridge for a while. Does anybody have a good way to do this? It also needs to be a way as to not screw up my current finish. Quote
ShreddyKrueger Posted July 20, 2004 Author Report Posted July 20, 2004 Another Question. If the bridge is munted lower or higher, will it change anything? Quote
RAI6 Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 And to give a slightly more detailed answer..... You cannot go from a vintage trem/flatmount, to a TOM without "screwing up" the finish. These bridges don't have a single screw hole in common. And the TOM won't cover the old holes either. And then there is the neck angle. A TOM is so much "taller" than a vintage trem/flatmount, that you would need to angle your neck. Standard angle is around 2-3 degrees. Lots of work. Not just something you just "slap on" in an afternoon.... Quote
a bicycle made of anarchy Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 there is a tutorial under the "building bodies" section of project guitar on converting a trem to hardtail.. you could follow that (basically blocking things up) and then just install a TOM.. but you will not be able to save the finish as stated above Quote
Devon Headen Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 You'd have to shim the neck to. The trem to hardtail tut is for flatmount hardtails. Quote
GregP Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 A Strat trem-to-TOM conversion is just asking for a world of hurt. Greg Quote
