  1. that thing is WILD! Way curvy, I like it. Kinda reminds me of some of Gaudi's architecture... skibum5545
  2. that is one of the most kicka** guitars i have ever seen! You truly have a gift for guitar building.
  3. The guitarist in my band has one. He loves it. It sounds really nice (even tho EMG selects arent really my thing) and he can't keep his hands off the whammy bar. It isn't entirely true that it stays perfectly in tune from one string change to the next; he has to do some fine tuning every jam (once a week), but nowhere near the level of any other trem bridge I've ever seen. I play bass, so I only know so much, but he loves it. And for the price especially. skibum5545 PS i think you can only get them at musicyo.com
  4. good point. Could you post pics of the neck as is? It sounds freaking gorgeous, even if it is a bit big. skibum5545
  5. Go ahead and get ideas from other guitars, but build her a custom body shape, smaller than average, but still cool. The more original it is, the more she'll appreciate it. skibum5545 P.S. I am talking kinda uninformed, so if anyone knows where i can get a pic of an OUIJA JEM thatd be nice.
  6. Perhaps I'm being naive, but if your neck is so big, could you use it for a bass neck? I'm new to building, so I don't know if the radius or fret spacings etc. would be screwed up, but it's just a thought. Another possibility is that I should be slapped very hard and cussed out for being a blatant fool. skibum5545
  7. Just to put in my two cents: I think teles are an acquired taste. I didn't like them before, but the have sort of a boxy elegance to them, along the lines of an old BMW... but back to guitars. True, Tele's have a twangier tone, but I personally like it. Strats seem a bit too "guitar in a box" to me: there are enough strats out there. Also, go for the ebony sharkfin, no matter the body. I like wood inlays, but it would look really awesome with Abalone or MOP (or heck, even mirror) border. Okay so maybe that was more like 3 or 4 cents... oh well, the more the merrier, eh? skibum5545
  8. I was reading about EMG's (the bass P-J set in particular) and noticed that they somehow have only three wires coming out of each pickup, making normal wiring (i.e. without buying a special EMG kit) impossible. What gives? Anyway, does anyone know where I can find some plans for wiring up EMGs with mods beyond what the pickups come with (vol. vol. tone)? I was hoping for something along the lines of Master Vol Blend Master (or separate) tone Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks skibum5545 PS anyone who can explain any POSSIBLE reason for the 3 wire arrangement will be my hero forever and ever.
  9. What programs are out there that could be used for computer designs of some guitars (or basses)? I've seen some cool computerized plans around, and wondered where I could download a program that would help me design my guit. Any help would be great! skibum5545
  10. amazing craftsmanship, but it kinda lacks in "style points". If only the finished product was as beautiful as the skill it must have took... a well, to each is own, right? skibum5545
  11. wicked awesome guitar man! It's so refreshing to see tele's being made... tele's are way underrated. Awesome finish too! skibum5545
  12. A couple things: First, is there anywhere to download a pattern for a Jazz bass neck pocket, or is it worth it to buy the Stewmac Template? Also, how much of my body should I cut out before routing the neck pocket (assuming I have neck in hand already)? This is my first bass, thanks for the ! Dan D skibum5545
  13. Thanks for all the help, guys! I think it's fine to say you've just put to rest most/all of my concerns. I'm addicted to this site...
  14. www.warmoth.com has lots of necks, kinda pricey, but infinitely customizeable... well, nearly anyway. If u wanna build yourself, I admire you for your determination, because I definitely chickened out myself (I'm building my first bass right now)
  15. Hey all, this is my first post. I am in the process of designing and building my first bass guitar. First of all, does anyone know where I can find a template for a neck pocket for a Fender J-bass neck? also, does anyone know the distance between the pocket and the bridge, so that I don't mess up the scale length? Another question is about the wood I'm using. I'm using a piece of 2" thick, 12" wide black walnut that my dad had in our garage for the last 15 years or so (it's about 8' long so I have plenty of length to work with). I am also using a maple neck with an ebony fretboard that I ordered from Warmoth.com. I haven't seen much black walnut being used, and I'm wondering if it is somehow not suited for basses or something. Anyway, if anyone has any help for me on these issues, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone else has tips that might save me some trouble later on (problems that I haven't yet anticipated) that too would be helpful. Thanks! Dan D skibum5545@hotmail.com
